<p><span style="color: #000000;">In teacher Katy Chabot’s Advanced Placement biology class, we see 11th grade students working on a learning target about </span><span style="color: #000000;"><span color="#000000" style="color: #000000;">analyzing data to explain the relationship between structure and function in enzymes. The students are almost ready for a summative assessment. Katy talks about demystifying the rubric, which students were given at the beginning of the unit, and helping students know what they need to achieve certain levels of proficiency (3:49).</span></span></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000;">In Cathy Butterfield’s 10th grade history class, students are working on a proficiency about how the past affects the present and impacts the future by looking at pivotal historical events. Cathy explains that she tries to give students “critical and specific feedback” (2:20), and how teaching with </span><span style="color: #000000;"><span color="#000000" style="color: #000000;">proficiencies has changed her approach to preparing lessons (3:11). </span></span></p>
