<p>You'll visit two classrooms at Crosstown in this video. In Ryan Dixon and Samantha Stiles’s team-taught English and Advanced Placement Human Geography class, 9th grade <span style="font-size: 1em;">students are working on a project about refugees and immigration in order to fulfill the competency “Lead One’s Learning.” Samantha describes how the competencies help her “create pathways that fit each student” (4:19). </span></p>
<p>In Kyle Gehringer’s math class, 9th grade students are working on the competency “Design Solutions” by designing and creating models of rockets that could travel to Mars. One thing Kyle appreciates about project-based and competency-based learning is that it gives students opportunities to close gaps in their knowledge, such as procedural fluency in mathematics (7:02). </p>
