<p>We all have many experiences with assessments whether in formal or informal schooling. Think back and <strong style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.6em;">choose an assessment that you thought was truly awful</strong><span style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.6em;">. This could be a big test, like a university entrance exam, or it could be something much smaller in scope.</span></p>
<ul>
<li><strong style="font-size: 1em;">Consider whether this assessment would be classified as formative or summative, and if it is an example of performance assessment. </strong></li>
<li><strong style="font-size: 1em;">Next, help us understand why it was so bad.</strong><span style="font-size: 1em;"> Did it cause you a lot of stress? Was it hard to understand the purpose of the assessment? Were the instructions overly complicated?</span></li>
<li>Now, <strong style="font-size: 1em;">think about two ways (or more, if you'd like) you could make it better.</strong><span style="font-size: 1em;"> First explain what "better" means for your particular assessment (Is it just less terrible? Is it more engaging?) and then explain the reasons for your changes. </span></li>
