Congratulations on completing 15.480, the Science and Business of Biotechnology! We hope you enjoyed this course as much as we enjoyed teaching it. More importantly, we hope you are as inspired as we are to combine the principles of financial engineering and biotechnology to help accelerate progress in biomedical research and development and develop drugs and devices to solve unmet medical needs.

This course was made possible through the efforts of many colleagues and we would like to acknowledge them explicitly here. First, we want to thank Professor Krishna Rajagopal, MIT’s Dean for Digital Learning, and Dana Doyle, director of the MITx program, for giving 15.480 the green light and approving the funding for this project. Shelly Uptonhelped to get the course site set up and running, andCarlos Gutierrezsorted out all of the considerable IP issues associated with the course contents.

In terms of video production, Craig MilanesiandDawn Mortonfrom MIT Video Productions coordinated the shoots. MVP is among the best in the business. Barry Pugatchand Erik Speededirected the cameras and filmed the lectures with help from Miles Lowry. Jim Cainhelped set up all the cool lightboard recitation video shoots, and MIT's fantastic audiovisual group was responsible for all of the audio recording. And those off-site interviews were filmed by Giro Studios, a terrific family-run multimedia company based right here in Cambridge.

In the postproduction process, Mary Zieglertook care of online accessibility for all the videos and helped with the transcripts. Maureen Fahey, Greg Eaton, Allen YannoneandHarry Bechkeshelped with the postproduction editing of the videos, and we needed a lot of editing. We also want to thank MITx for producing a number of the special animations and taping this thank-you video, which was a project in and of itself.

Coordinating and directing all of these people is a huge challenge: that responsibility went to Lana Scott, manager of media services and MOOC development; Brad Kay.Goodman, manager of digital learning and development at MITx; and Crystal Myler, Andrew's program assistant. They were instrumental in every stage of the development of this course, from coordinating and managing all of these teams to organizing and developing online components, including all the videos, to figuring out the logistics of the course offering and overall production scheduling, to meeting with us regularly to make sure we were comfortable with how the course was being produced. These three individuals are so good at their jobs that they made our job just about as effortless as possible. We just showed up to give our lectures, attended some meetings, made a few decisions, and voila, 15.480 appeared.

We want to say an extra word of thanks to Crystal, who manages Andrew's MIT courses and events in addition to all aspects of the MIT course administration. On top of doing a fantastic job with all of this, she managed to keep him sane throughout the process and was somehow always able to keep a smile on her face. And we would be remiss if we didn't mention the support we get from Mavanee Nealon, Andrew's assistant, and Jayna Cummings, the assistant director of the Laboratory for Financial Engineering. Without their efforts, we would not have had the bandwidth to even consider a project of this magnitude.

Finally, let us turn to the course itself. First, we have to thank all of the 15.480 students- business students, biology students, bioengineering students, and more who took this class. We thank them for actively participating throughout the semester and agreeing to be filmed. We want to thank the amazing set of guest speakersthat came to our class and especially those who agreed to be filmed through this course. We learned as much from them as the students did. We are so grateful to them for taking time out of their crazy schedules to share their insights with us and their admins for coordinating their schedules.

We had two great summer students, Gautam Mishraand Julian Wambach, who worked on a number of the widgets that you got to play with over the last few weeks. We also want to thank our two amazing teaching assistants, Shomesh Chaudhuriand Kate Koch, who helped develop this course through its various stages. Shomeshran recitation sections to teach the elements of finance and business to the biology and bioengineering students. And Kate, an MD-PhD student, taught enough biology to the business students so that they could understand our lectures. They also wrote the problem sets, filmed the recitations, and they along, with Chi Heem Wong, were TAs for the live course and did a terrific job. We were very fortunate to have Andrew's PhD student, Zied Ben Chaouch, who, in addition to being the MITx course TA, also shared the task of course administration with Crystal. Nearly every video, question, and slide you saw was edited or developed by Zied, and this course would not have turned out like it did without him.

There were many others at MIT and edXthat played less direct but critical roles in making this course possible, and we thank all of them as well.

Last and by no means least, on behalf of all of us here at MIT, we want to thank youfor your time, effort, and commitment in taking this course and for allowing us to be a small part of your journey in learning about the science and business of biotechnology. We wish you great success in all of your endeavors.
